What's the difference between the Toronto Maple Leafs and a cigarette vending machine ?

A: The vending machine has Players.

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and whales have in common?

A: They both get totally confused when surrounded by ice.

Why are the Toronto Maple Leafs like Canada Post ?

A: They both wear uniforms and don't deliver.

Why doesn't Hamilton have an NHL team ?

A: Because then Toronto would want one .....

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Blue Jays all have in common besides being based in Toronto ?

What do you call 30 millionaires around a TV watching the Stanley cup playoffs ?

This guy says to the bartender, "can my dog and I watch the Toronto maple leafs hockey game here ? My cable is out, and my dog and I always watch the game together."

The bartender replies, "normally, dogs wouldn't be allowed in my bar, but its not very busy right now, so you and the dog can have a seat at the end of the bar. But, if there's any trouble with you or the dog, I'll have to ask you to leave."

The guy agrees, and he and his dog start watching the game. Pretty soon the leafs manage to score a goal and the excited dog jumps up on the bar, barks loudly, does a back flip and runs over to the bartender and gives him a high five.

The bartender says, "wow, that's pretty cool ! What does he do when they win a game ?

The guy answers, "No idea, I've only had him for 3 years."

The last time the maple leafs won the Stanley cup most of their fans were in diapers.

Coincidentally, the next time they win it, those same fans will be back in diapers again !

Week 1 in the books

Gold defeats Red. 10-6
White defeats Black. 5-4

White vs Black unknown....

Please be advised that "comments" are now being accepted on the blog but only those with the author being identified will be posted. No "anonymous" comments please.

See your captain for schedules - they were issued this past weekend.

Thursday 3 September 2009

Spare List

As in the past the league has attempted to create a spares list for this upcoming season with only one spare (goalie) expressing interest. Should you know of someone kindly pass the information along.......

FYI

9 full time players played "double headers" (both games 12 and 1) on 8 or more occasions during last year. This means they spared 8 plus times during the year. One player spared 9 times during the half season that he signed up for and another player spared 16 times in a full schedule.

Is there an issue here!!
Do you think there should be a limit on the number of games someone can spare???

Old Tradition Under Pressure from H1N1

Post game line up for hand shakes between opponents are becoming a thing of the past!!!!

It is becoming more commonplace and acceptable not to say wise to leave the gloves on and tap the back of the gloves when greeted by your opponent.

Don't be offended ..... just be respectful !!!!!

CARHA Hockey Promotes Health and Safety

Health - Fit for Hockey

Do you want to get Fit For Hockey?

Fit For Hockey is a hockey conditioning program which combines both on-ice hockey skills training with off-ice education regarding proper physical training, health and body awareness, and nutrition.

Playing a rigorous sport such as hockey increases the chances of on-ice heart related incidents, so the Fit For Hockey program also gives players the opportunity to be trained in life saving skills such as CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Be proactive, not reactive...bring Fit For Hockey to your community.

Contact us to get your hockey community fit for hockey

Why Fit For Hockey

* Hockey is a rigorous, fast-paced, start and stop sport with strong reliance on the heart
* On-ice heart related incidents such as heart attacks have been increasing in the adult/oldtimers hockey demographic
* Lack of awareness, knowledge, and education regarding proper fitness conditioning, training, and lifestyle behaviours
* Limited exposure to CPR and AED
* When an on-ice heart related incident occurs hockey participants have not been equipped with the necessary knowledge and training to act to sustain lives
* Large percentage of adult/oldtimer hockey players are not active outside of hockey
* Fear stimulus exists for administering an electric shock without having experience using an AED

Fit For Hockey Program Elements

On-ice session include:

* Proper stretching techniques / hockey stretches / warm-ups
* Progression drills to improve on-ice fitness
* Improved skating stride and efficiency
* Heart rate monitoring and testing while performing rigorous activity
* Recognizing signs of fatigue, distress and the importance of re-hydration
* Smart hockey nutrition – pre and post game

Off-ice sessions include:

* The importance of getting a physical exam and of life style adjustments
* Developing the individual and team emergency action plans
* Off-ice training: aerobic, anaerobic, strength training
* CPR / AED Defibrillator training
* Body composition test

Safety - Facial Protection

Facial Protection

CARHA Hockey promotes safety in hockey and as such encourages all players to wear the proper facial protection while on the ice.

That being said, we are pleased to announce that we have enhanced our Hockey Insurance to reflect greater coverage for dental claims.

* Dental claims for players wearing full facial protection = $2,000 max.
* Dental claims for players wearing a half visor and mouthguard = $1,500 max.

In addition, CARHA Hockey actively engages in educating hockey players on the importance of wearing facial protection and mouth guards. Such endeavours include Mouth Guard Clinics at tournaments, Facial Protection Surveys and awareness campaigns via local media outlets and hockey retailers. Contact CARHA Hockey for more information.
