Alymer Hockey Tournament: Jan., 28, 2009 – Feb., 1, 2009

We are looking for teams for our annual Alymer hockey tournament. The tournament commences on the night of Wednesday, Jan., 28, 2009 and ends on Sunday, Feb,.1, 2009.

Although we have not finalized the tournament, we are thinking of having:

30 plus: 12 teams, 40 plus: 12 teams, 50 plus: 4 teams. Accordingly, we are presently looking for teams mainly for both 30 plus and 40 plus.

We will be entering several teams from Alymer and these will be house league calibre teams which include a couple of A players, four or five B players and a couple of C players. Accordingly, our preference is to have similar calibre teams enter the tournament.

The format that we are looking at will guarantee each team 4 games with a 50% possibility of having a 5th game. For both the 30 plus and 40 plus, we want to have your first two games determine what division you are in and the last two games being played against teams in your division. I.e. If you win your first two games then you play on the weekend against other teams that won. We are leaning towards this format because in the past some have sent stacked teams to our tournament, which has left some folks upset.

In the 50 plus, we may only have four teams, in which case the teams will not be divided into divisions. Note: If more 50 plus teams want in, and we do not get enough of the other divisions then we will alter the format accordingly.

Beer will be served in the dressing room and various other locations in the two Alymer arenas (note unlike Ontario, in Quebec the whole arena is licensed hence you can sit in the stands or your dressing room and enjoy a cold one.). Furthermore a bar will open with food for much of the tournament.

If you are interested in entering a team please contact one of the following:

Kent Mayhew: email kent.mayhew@rogers.com

John Mitchell: email: jjm@magma.ca

Larry: email: jr.jue@videotron.ca

Also let us know if there is a particular night or time slot, which your team cannot play. We will do our best to accommodate.

We will notify you prior to Christmas whether or not we can accommodate your team. At which time we will expect a $100 deposit to be given to the Alymer hockey league.

Although we have not finalized costs, we expect to be charging around $500 per team for a guaranteed 4 games with a 50% possibility of a 5th.

Sincerely Kent Mayhew

CARHA Insurance - Gift

Ball Caps

We were only given 10,000 hats this year so they were only available if you registered and paid by Oct 15th. We had so many people register before the deadline that we couldn’t even cover off the people who paid by in September. At this point we haven’t been able to secure more funding to order more hats so for any groups what didn’t get any, we probably won’t get any more until next season.

I’m sorry if this causes any issues. We literally have 1 hat left…..

Spread pain of higher ice rental rates

5 Feb 2010 Ottawa Citizen – Letter by Rob Millican, Ottawa to the Ottawa Citizen

Spread pain of higher ice rental rates

The city budget approves increase of rental rates for adults who already pay the highest ice rates while restricting their play until 10 p. m. The hourly rate has steadily been jacked without a whimper from adult hockey players. At the same time minor hockey rates do not go up and are less than half the adult rates. Nobody argues with increased rates, but the pain should be spread equally. Any talk of minor rate increases brings a flood of protest — but nothing from the adults.
