PHL 2020/2021 Season Canceled

With much regret and after several months effort of our executive we have decided to cancel the 2020/2021 season. After re-purposing McNabb for Covid-19, to relocate to any other location and time could not be achieved in the window of opportunity presented by City. As it turns out this may be for the best as there is a spike in case in the National Capital Region.

We look forward to your return next year.

McNabb Arena Temporary Re-purposing

 Dear McNabb Arena Clients,

The McNabb Arena is being converted to an alternate emergency use centre. Unfortunately, all arena bookings that were scheduled at McNabb Arena between November 7, 2020 to March 31, 2021 will need to be cancelled or rescheduled.

We understand the disappointment this change may bring to your plans, but this facility is needed to support our community in another way. Our staff will be pleased to help you find ice time at a suitable alternative location. A member of the Centralized Allocations team will follow up with you in the coming days to discuss options.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to accommodating you at another location.

CONVID-19 Looking Ahead

If you have opted out of participation in our League, we definitely respect your decision and hopefully you will be rejoining us soon. Looking to the future, we will not be sending any messages your way as this would not be in your better interest. Should you desire to return please make every effort to reach out and at that time we can assess the capacity of the league. Thank you for your support throughout the years.

Note from PHL and CARHA Hockey - Recommended guidelines with respect to COVID-19

To All Players and Spares,

At this point, the city has not closed recreation facilities and the PHL continues to operate. However, if you have any symptoms, have been exposed, or have recently traveled to a high risk region, please do consider staying home and let your captain know. For the safety of the league, do not hesitate to report any potential exposures. Names will be kept confidential.

September 2009 an entry in our blog references the H1N1 predicament.

Please read on ...........
Captains - I have released this email to full time and spare players alike, please feel free to recirculate to insure extensive coverage.

Thank you ......

Subject: CARHA Hockey - Recommended guidelines with respect to COVID-19

Hi ,
In light of the recommended guidelines from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) with respect to COVID-19, CARHA Hockey is considering every safeguard to ensure the safety of the participants, officials, volunteers and fans who take part in our great game. As a result, we are asking teams to replace the traditional post-game handshake with a fist pump (gloves on).
Despite reports of the risk being low for contracting COVID-19 to the general public in Canada, we are doing our due diligence in communicating the following information/recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada:
Proper hygiene can help reduce the risk of infection or spreading infection to others:
  1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the washroom and when preparing food

    • use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available

  2. When coughing or sneezing:

    • cough or sneeze into a tissue or the bend of your arm, not your hand
    • dispose of any tissues you have used as soon as possible in a lined waste basket and wash your hands afterwards

  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

  4. Clean the following high-touch surfaces frequently with regular household cleaners or diluted bleach (1 part bleach to 9 parts water):

    • toys
    • toilets
    • phones
    • electronics
    • door handles
    • bedside tables
    • television remotes

Thank you,

CARHA Hockey
